Questions and Answers

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about web and graphic design, and the answers.

Q. My business is running well without a website, why should I bother investing in one?
A. Your website opens a new door to your business. Millions of people now use the net to gather information about products and services, and nowadays at least 85% of products and services are found on the net. A simple and informative website costs as little as £150.00 for 3 page site and this includes a bit about your business, your products and services and a contact page. This includes hosting and up to 3 email addresses. It also includes a domain name which is usually your business name i.e. www.yourbusinessname.co.uk (if available, or in a similar format if not available).
Q. One of the leading directories has offered me a website free if I advertise with them, why should I pay for a separate web site?
A. Before you commit please check that the website will have your business name within the domain as you would if you purchased your site from a web design company, for example www.mybusinessname.co.uk and not www.thedirectoryname.co.uk/yourbusinessname. The reason is simple; should you wish to add your website to your business card, stationery, company vans then you will find that your own domain will look far more professional than the latter. Use the latter and you end up advertising the directory's business and not your own.
Q. How can I get a domain similiar or the same as my business name?
A. A lot of new businesses actually check that the domain containing their business name is available before they actually register their business. A domain name needs to be chosen with care, even if you are abbreviating i.e. Swindon Abestos Surveying could not choose www.sas.co.uk as there is a company in the UK using this name as a Ltd company. You need to check that the name has not been used before and more importantly, if it has that it is not associated with bad business practice. You should also consider using a business/domain name that contains at least 2 words that are associated with your nature of business, for example Outback Garden Landscaping. Outback Garden Landscaping position 1 in Google under the search term garden landscaping Swindon. Outback Garden Landscaping is a valued customer of ours and we always endeavour to get our customers on page 1 of Google.
Q. What else can I put on my website other than information about us, services/products and contact information?
A. You can add testimonials, surveys, questionairres, picture galleries and more.
Q. Do you recommend using flash and or intro music on my website?
A. A majority of web users prefer not to see flash on a website as they find it irratating and it also draws the eye away from more important information about your business. If you have a special offer, then flash may be useful however, it needs to be tastefully designed. If the site has music, 8 out of 10 times users will stop the music before continuing to browse, especially if they are in a internet cafe or library whilst browsing. As a whole, you need to consider both aspects carefully before adding to a website and use only if you feel the user could benefit.
Q. I advertise in local magazines and newspapers and would like to be ready to go for last minute deals. Would it be possible to have one ad design adapted to fit all sizes on a PDF so all I need do is send the PDF to the publisher right away?
A. Yes of course, we are currently running a special ad package deal whereby you receive 5 different sized ads (one sixteenth page, one eighth page, a quarter page, half page and A4 size). With the deal you receive one additional size adjustment of your choice.
Q. What do you need from me in order to get my website or advertisements created?
A. We would require your full contact information, logo, images and content to be used. We can supply stock images cost depending upon the size image required. A face to face and or telephone meeting is required prior to producing your ad and or website to ensure attention to detail.
